15 PDP Lawmakers Flee Benue As APC Member Emerges Speaker

No fewer than fifteen members of the Benue State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a member from the Labour Party have fled Makurdi, the state capital over alleged threat to their life. The lawmakers claimed they fled Markurdi over threat to their life and monetary inducement by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led State Government. According to the legislators, they left Makurdi on Tuesday, after the 7th assembly was dissolved without inaugurating the 8th assembly. In separate interviews with newsmen, the lawmakers said they had been offered money and car gifts to allow the APC with 14 members take leadership of the House. They also lamented that their refusal to accept the offer put them at cross purpose with the APC government which began to threaten their lives, forcing them to run to safety. Meanwhile, DAILY POST has gathered that Hon Terkimbi Kyange has emerged as the speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly. He is a member of the APC.  http://dailypost.ng/2015/06/05/15-pdp-lawmakers-flee-benue-as-apc-member-emerges-speaker/

President Muhammadu Buhari Returns To Abuja From His Trips To Niger, Chad.

President Muhammadu Buhari returns to Abuja from his trips to Niger, Chad. President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja, Nigeria -following his trips to Niger and Chad. The president who went to meet his African counterparts over the Boko Haram insurgents -was welcomed warmly by an entourage who waited for him at the presidential wing of the Abuja international airport.

BUHARI TO BECOME NEXT OPEC PRESIDENT.

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to become the next President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), as Nigeria still retains its seat, an official of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said on Thursday in Abuja.

The official, who preferred anonymity, said the exit of the former Minister Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, had nothing to do with the status of Nigeria as the President of the organisation.

The official said the position would be filled after the appointment of a new Minister of Petroleum by the president. It is widely believed that President Buhari will double as the Minister of Petroleum in a bid to rid the ministry of the massive corruption that has plagued it.

The official said the former minister was elected at the 166th General Meeting of the OPEC, not in her own capacity but to represent Nigeria.
Alison-Madueke was elected the president of the international oil body on Nov. 27, 2014 but started to function in the office in January 2015.
The president of OPEC, according to the official, is expected to serve for a period of one year and to preside over the meetings of the conference in the course of that presidency.

OPEC, the source says, has Alternate President who exercises the responsibilities of the President during an absence, or when the incumbent s unable to carry out the responsibilities.

Cocaine Found In Woman's Vagina in Lagos Airport

Two women have been apprehended by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for ingesting cocaine, packing some on their underwear and also inserting them in their private parts. The two women, who are housewives, were found to possess 2.635 kilogrammes of cocaine at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to China.

The NDLEA commander at the Lagos Airport, Mr. Hamza Umar, described the suspects as desperate traffickers saying: “These women are curiously desperate for ingesting drugs, packing some on their bodies and inserting in their vagina. The first one, Alaka Deborah Uzoma, 47 years old, was found with 1.180 kilogrammes of cocaine. She inserted 260 grammes of cocaine in her private part and ingested 60 wraps weighing 920 grammes.

“The second suspect, Chukwujekwu Chinyere Priscilla, 45 years old, was caught with 1.455 kilogrammes of cocaine. She packed 59 wraps on her body, inserted one parcel in her vagina weighing 1.285 kilogrammes and ingested 10 wraps weighing 170 grammes. They are both from Anambra State.”

Dismissed Army Officer Arrested For Robbery in Lagos (Pictured)

LAGOS—Police in Lagos have arrested a member of a suspected robbery gang that usually wore military camouflage while robbing unsuspecting private and commercial vehicles trapped in traffic around Mile 2, Festac, Alakija and its environs. Police sources said it was discovered that the suspect was a dismissed soldier. He was said to have been dismissed from the Nigerian Army over unethical conduct.

The 43-year-old suspect, identified as Adokie Tombra, revealed that he wore Army camouflage to evade paying fare each time he boarded commercial vehicles. Vanguard gathered that Tombra was apprehended by policemen attached to Festac Division, in full Military regalia, while members of his gang were attempting to escape after a robbery operation.

During interrogation, Tombra reportedly said: “I resigned from the Nigerian Army several years back. Usually, I wear this Nigeria Army camouflage every time I am going out so I will not pay fare.” Confirming the arrest, Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspect was still in police custody and would soon be arraigned in court.

President Wife, Aisha Buhari Inauguration Wristwatch Cost £34,500 (10,453,000)

 By Kayode Sesan

Investigations by BREAKING TIMES on Monday revealed that Aisha Buhari, wife of the President of Nigeria wore a Cartier Baignoire Folle 18-Carat White Gold Diamond Ladies Watch that cost £34,500 to President Muhammadu Buhari’s inauguration on Friday, May 29 2015.

The equivalent of this at the current Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) foreign exchange rate of N303 to £1 is N10, 453, 000 (Ten Million, Four Hundred and Fifty Three Thousand Naira).

The Cartier Baignoire Folle 18-Carat White Gold Diamond Ladies Watch comes in a case made of rhodiumised white gold set with brilliant-cut diamonds. On the side of the case is an octagonal crown set with a diamond. The case is 44mm high, 35mm wide and 10mm thick and is covered by glare-proof sapphire crystal glass.

President Muhamdu Buhari was elected riding on the wave of strong anti-corruption, integrity and pro-masses sentiment.

This shocking extravagance by Mrs. Buhari runs contrary to earlier indications that the Buharis are modest and the President, a pastoral farmer with 150 cows, barely raised the money to pay for his presidential nomination form.

Many Nigerians have expressed confidence in the ability of the new President to fight corruption by cutting government waste and running a lean government.

Again, Buhari’s appointment on Sunday of two Spokesmen has drawn criticisms from some Nigerians who say one spokesperson is enough for a Government that preaches change and a radical departure from the alleged wastage of past administrations.

ARMED ROBBER SUSPECT ARRESTED YESTERDAY

The police in Lagos have apprehended a suspected car snatcher, Donatus Okike, who allegedly stole vehicles at gunpoint in different areas of Lagos.

Okike, 29, however, told our correspondent that his role in the gang was to find buyers for the stolen vehicles.

The police said the suspect, who was arrested in the Igando area, allegedly belonged to a four-man gang, which was notorious for snatching vehicles and dismantling them to sell as spare parts.

It was learnt that the gang, which was nabbed by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, had an outlet in an auto spare parts market in Lagos where they sold the parts of stolen vehicles.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the gang usually removed the number plates of stolen vehicles so that the buyers would think the vehicles were imported used vehicles (Tokunbo).

It was gathered that the police recovered an AK-47 rifle and 73 rounds of live ammunition loaded in six magazines from the gang.

Also, two of the vehicles sold by the gang ─ a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Sienna ─ have been recovered by the police.

Okike, from Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, said he was preparing to take the fourth vehicle to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to sell when the operatives arrested him.

He added that his role in the gang was to drive the vehicle to the buyer.

He said, “I worked formerly as a truck driver. That was in 2009. My boss was Mr. Ogbonna Okorie, who used to load bags of rice in the Seme area. My route is from Mile 2 to the border area. I also ply the Idiroko area in Ogun State. I came to Lagos in 2005, and I used to stay with my uncle in the Maryland area before I joined the gang.

“The first vehicle we stole was a Toyota Camry. I drove it to Benin, Edo State, where we sold it for N600,000. The second car was a Toyota Sienna which I took to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and sold for N700,000. I sold it to one Lucky Oboh. We usually removed the plate numbers when selling so that our buyers would not suspect the vehicles were stolen. I was given N300,000 as my share.

“The third one was another Toyota Camry, which I drove to the Badagry area of Lagos to sell. The fourth was a Toyota Sienna and I was to also take it to Port Harcourt when the police arrested me. I am not the gang leader. The leader is known simply as Segun.

“My role is to find a buyer for the vehicle and drive it to his location after an agreement. It was the gang leader who operated with this gun. I was also a drug addict and I used the robbery proceeds to take care of my mother who had a poor health.”

Our correspondent learnt that three other members were still at large, identified only as Nonso, Segun and Donald.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, had yet to get back to our correspondent for comment.

WHY PRESIDENT BUHARI HAS NOT MOVE TO ASO ROCK. Aide

Head of President Muhammadu Buhari’s media team, Garba Shehu, on Sunday said Buhari had yet to move to the Presidential Villa, Abuja because his official residence was not ready for habitation.
Shehu, in an exclusive interview with our correspondent said workers were currently cleaning and refurbishing the President’s official residence.
He said Buhari would not move in until that exercise was completed. Shehu said, “As far as the President is concerned, the place (his official residence) is not ready yet. “Workers are cleaning and refurbishing the place.
“Once the exercise is completed, the President will move in.” When asked to be specific on how soon Buhari would move in, Shehu said he believed it would not take time. Meanwhile, personnel of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, especially security operatives are currently at a crossroads on the direction their work will take this week.
The PUNCH’s investigation on Sunday revealed that their dilemma was based on the failure of President Buhari to relocate to the State House and his failure to appoint key aides, three days after his inauguration.
A Presidency official who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity said they were not yet sure of the President’s schedule and itinerary for the week. This, he said, was because Buhari had yet to appoint a Chief of Staff whose responsibility it is to arrange the President’s day-to-day activities.
He said, “As we are talking now, we do not know his (the President’s) activities for tomorrow (today). We cannot plan for his activities. We do not know which groups he will be meeting or how many people he will be meeting.
“It is when we have an idea of those who he will be meeting that we can schedule them regarding allocation of time and venue. “These would have been easier for us if a Chief of Staff is in place.” A security source also said the situation was affecting the security department. He said because they were not carried along, the inauguration gala night held inside the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa on Friday nearly flopped as people kept trooping in. He however expressed the hope that by the time Buhari’s Chief Security Officer meets with them on Monday (today), there would be a clear direction on their activities. “For now, we are waiting for the two big men (President and Vice President) to move into the Villa so that we can do our jobs. For now, we are only securing the seat of power without the men of power,” he declared.

TO Jonathan ; "Make Sure You Correct Your Mistakes IF You Win", Okoye Tells GEJ

The former Chaplain of the Presidential Villa during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime and the Founding General Overseer of the All Christians Fellowship Mission, Abuja, William Okoye, pointedly told President Goodluck Jonathan that he made mistakes in office and urged him to correct those mistakes if he wins the presidential election. In a sermon to mark Palm Sunday, Okoye said though Jonathan has achieved so much in office, many Nigerians do not seem to appreciate these achievements stating that the disposition by Jonathan that he was not desperate to remain in office was a welcome relief as he does not see politics as a do or die affair.

“If God gives us another opportunity there are three things we must do: One, we must acknowledge God as our source of victory and helper. Two, review all you have done in the past, learn from past mistakes because you have done well but you must admit you have made mistakes. Thirdly, repackage the mistakes you have made so that you can launch out in full force. Every leader in public office is in a position of trust we must account for the position we have been given and do things right” he said.
He noted that those who said President Jonathan has not performed in his four years in office were either being mischievous or economical with the truth as his achievements were glaring for all to see. According to him, if performance was a yardstick for election, Jonathan’s performance would have guaranteed a sure victory, adding that Nigerians have done their bit by voting while the rest now lies in God’s hands.

He admonished Jonathan that people in their usual sycophantic nature will go to various places claiming they prayed and will want to take the glory as facilitators of victory when the result goes the way of the principle, urging President Jonathan not to make that mistake but attribute the victory (if he eventually wins) to God and not to man. “It is God that puts people in authority and we have done all we have to do, we have to look to him (God) and I believe we are going to sing a new song.
Thank God we have a President who wants to serve and not engage in do or die politics. Some of us were here during the third term agenda and I kicked against it from this alter. As a villa chaplain under Obasanjo, the third term agenda was not originally his idea, hence he rejected it when it was suggested. But those behind it went and repackaged and presented it to him and he bought it. When he told me I kicked against it but before you knew it he was sidelining me and so I was forced to use the pulpit to tell him God was not with him on this matter because the idea was not God’s and that was why the idea failed. Thank God we have a president that says I want to serve but I’m not desperate. So it is not a question of do or die thing.
This election is not a do or die. If we loss we will go and use the experience to serve humanity. So there is nothing to worry about. I know with what this government has done if given opportunity in another four years Nigeria will be better. That is why we are not to be proud because God resist the proud,” he added.

Woman Stabs Husband To Death Over PDP, APC Presidential Candidates

Lagos—Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old pregnant woman who allegedly stabbed her husband to death during a quarrel over who would emerge winner between the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidates, while voting was on-going , weekend, at Ejigbo area of the state.

The scene

The incident, which threw the densely populated area into disarray, occurred at about 12noon inside the couple’s one room apartment at 81 Military zone junction.

There were different accounts on how tragedy struck. A version of the account said the couple had divergent views on their choice of presidential candidates. While the husband was said to have decided to vote for the PDP, his wife, simply called Onyiyechi, reportedly chose to vote for the presidential candidate of the APC.

An argument which degenerated into a fight over whose choice would hold sway reportedly ensued between them.
In the process, Onyiyechi allegedly stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife in the chest region.
Another version said the deceased, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, told his pregnant wife to take the okro she was grating inside the room, to the veranda which also served as kitchen , an instruction she reportedly disobeyed, following which an argument which led to a fight occurred.

Visit to the scene

When Vanguard visited the scene of the incident yesterday, the couple’s apartment was under lock . Their neighbours however described the suspect as an amicable person who had never quarreled with anyone since she moved into the building.
One of the tenants who spoke on condition of anonymity told Vanguard that they did not witness how the suspect allegedly stabbed her husband.
But he explained that : “ We were all outside waiting to vote when Onyiyechi rushed out, shouting for help. Out of curiosity, we all ran inside, only to discover blood all over the ground, on entering their apartment.

”On closer observation, we noticed that the blood was from her husband chest region. We met him on the ground. Before we could rush him to the hospital, he gave up the ghost.
Perhaps, he would have survived the attack had Onyiyechi called for help early. From all indication, it was clear that she attempted to manage the situation immediately the incident occurred.

It was when she discovered that the situation had overwhelmed her that she raised alarm.
”I do not know the name of her husband. We only know that of his wife, who we fondly call Onyiyechi

The irony of this matter is that she is not cantankerous.

”She has never beaten a little child, let alone to fight with any neighbor. Again on that day, we saw both of them together. They were seen sitting outside, one hour before the incident occurred. Policemen from Ejigbo later came to move the corpse to the Isolo morgue”.
